How to install eps decorative elements? Do u know these points?
EPS decorative elements are a new type of exterior wall decorative lines and components. They are particularly suitable for installation on walls insulated with EPS or XPS. They can perfectly embody the classical European and elegant decorative style. Installing traditional cement components is very difficult, time-consuming, prone to cracking over time, and has poor durability. In contrast, using EPS decorative elements offers advantages such as easy installation, cost-effectiveness, and long-term durability.
1. Site Preparation
The wall surface intended for installation, along with window/door openings and other construction procedures, must be completed and passed inspection.
2. Base Cleaning
Clean the concrete wall surface of residual dust, release agent oil stains, debris, and any areas of hollow plaster.
Remove split concrete blocks, impurities, or hollow areas at wall joints and repair them. Window sills and overhanging eaves should have a 2% gradient slope applied using cement mortar.
All exterior wall openings must be densely filled. The surface for EPS board adhesion must have a flatness deviation not exceeding 4mm. Areas protruding beyond this tolerance should be ground down; areas recessed beyond tolerance should be filled (if the fill thickness exceeds 6mm, use 1:3 cement mortar; if less than 6mm, use polymer bonding mortar applied by the insulation contractor).
Ensure the entire wall's flatness is within 4mm, with square corners and vertical alignment.
3. Mortar Preparation
The mortars used in construction are specialized bonding mortar and surface polymer anti-crack mortar. Mix using a hand-held electric mixer. For bonding mortar, the water-to-mortar ratio by weight is 1:5. Add water while stirring; mix for at least 5 minutes until fully uniform, achieving a moderate consistency and adequate viscosity. After mixing, let the mortar rest for 5 minutes and stir again before use. Prepared mortar must be used within 1 hour.
4. Marking Locations
Based on the construction drawings, mark positioning lines (center lines or edge lines) on the wall where the EPS components are to be installed.
5. Installing EPS Components
When adhering EPS components, grid cloth should be wrapped back. Under special circumstances, direct adhesion without wrapping may be possible. Use high-quality bonding mortar to adhere polystyrene EPS components, employing the thin-layer full-bed method. Press the EPS component firmly to ensure mortar squeezes out around the edges; the adhesive joint width should not exceed 3mm. Point the joints as you adhere them, ensuring the mortar joints are full, and keep the surface of the EPS components clean.
