Calcium silicate board is a new type of inorganic building panel made primarily from siliceous materials, calcareous materials, and reinforcing fibers through a high-temperature, high-pressure process. Due to its excellent comprehensive performance, calcium silicate board finds wide application in various fields such as construction, industry, and shipbuilding.
The advantages of calcium silicate insulation materials:
- The usage temperature of ordinary products can reach up to 650°C, while some products with specially formulated treatments (such as hard calcium silicate type) can withstand a long-term temperature of up to 1000°C.
- It will not catch fire in the presence of open flames or high temperatures, and can effectively prevent the spread of the fire.
- The calcium silicate material has a dense structure and its mechanical strength is much higher than that of many other soft insulation materials.
- Within the range of 0.035 - 0.065 W/(m·K).
Silicate calcium insulation products are classified differently depending on their application scenarios. And performance requirements for calcium silicate board vary significantly across different scenarios. So, how should one choose the appropriate type?
We can categorize types based on application scenarios:
- Building Interior Applications (e.g., Walls, Ceilings): Priority should be given to flatness and environmental friendliness. It is advisable to select autoclaved high-pressure curing panels with a thickness of 6mm-12mm. This type of board has a smooth surface, meeting the "ready-to-paint" standard, and has formaldehyde emissions ≤ 0.1 mg/m³.
- Humid Environments (Bathrooms, Basements, Garages): The core requirement is moisture resistance and deformation resistance. Specifically choose "Moisture-resistant Type Calcium Silicate Board". This type has a moisture content ≤ 8%, water absorption expansion rate ≤ 2%, and has passed a waterproof test (no delamination after 24-hour immersion). During installation, joints must be treated with sealant to prevent moisture ingress.
- Industrial Load-Bearing Scenarios (Cable Trench Covers, Equipment Protective Plates): Requires strength and durability. It is recommended to use high-strength boards with a density of 1.2-1.5 g/cm³, possessing a flexural strength ≥ 8 MPa and a compressive strength 15~20 MPa. If applied in high-temperature environments (e.g., boilers, flues), ensure the board has high-temperature resistance, capable of withstanding temperatures above 200°C long-term without powdering.
Selecting calcium silicate board is not simply about "buying a panel" but rather a systematic decision-making process based on market needs. Making a scientific choice not only ensures project quality but also reduces long-term maintenance costs.
