Calcium Silicate Materials Secure a Leading Position in the Insulation Market with Core Performance Advantages

From Construction to Industry: 1
Amid the current insulation industry's dual demands for "safety upgrades" and "efficiency improvements," calcium silicate materials are moving from niche applications to the mainstream market, becoming the "performance solution of choice" in both construction and industrial sectors thanks to their fire resistance, thermal insulation capabilities, and cross-scene adaptability.

Construction Sector: Addressing Safety Concerns with Superior Fire Resistance
In recent years, flammable insulation materials and inadequate fire resistance have frequently been cited as factors in building fires. According to statistics, from 2020 to 2024, among 3,353 insulation-related fires involving building exteriors and cold storage facilities across China, 7 out of 14 major fires were directly linked to combustible insulation materials. Calcium silicate materials offer a new solution to these safety challenges.

As a core product in this category, xonotlite-type calcium silicate fireproof boards demonstrate exceptional fire resistance—a 10mm-thick board can provide up to 4 hours of fire resistance, and with supporting adhesives, it can withstand temperatures as high as 1,000°C, far exceeding the fire resistance of traditional cement asbestos boards and gypsum boards. Moreover, these materials release no harmful substances during production or use and exhibit no aging degradation, aligning with the dual requirements of "safety + environmental sustainability" in green building practices.

With increasingly stringent fire safety regulations—such as Beijings's specialized insulation material rectification plans issued in February and April this year, which explicitly require higher fire resistance standards for exterior wall and pipeline insulation—calcium silicate fireproof boards are now being widely adopted in commercial complexes, high-rise residential buildings, and industrial plants. Data from a design institute show that in the first half of 2025, construction projects using calcium silicate fireproof boards increased by 62% year-on-year, and domestic consumption of calcium silicate materials in construction is expected to exceed 500,000 tons within the year.

Industrial Sector: Meeting Diverse Needs with High-Efficiency Thermal Insulation
Calcium silicate materials are also gaining traction in industrial thermal management scenarios due to their excellent insulation efficiency and temperature stability. Compared to traditional insulation materials like polystyrene foam and mineral wool commonly used in China, xonotlite-type calcium silicate insulation materials boast a thermal conductivity as low as ≤0.045 W/(m·K), along with sound absorption and noise reduction capabilities. They remain stable within a temperature range of -50°C to 600°C, making them ideal for insulating high-temperature kilns and thermal equipment in industries such as metallurgy, chemicals, and petrochemicals.
In a technical renovation project by a large petrochemical enterprise, replacing traditional mineral wool insulation with calcium silicate materials reduced equipment heat loss by 35%, saving over RMB 2 million in annual energy costs. In low-temperature cold storage pipeline insulation for the food processing industry, the low thermal conductivity and moisture resistance of calcium silicate materials effectively prevented pipeline condensation, increasing refrigeration efficiency by 12%. These examples highlight the "universal advantages" of calcium silicate materials in industrial applications. Their market share in industrial insulation has risen from 8% in 2023 to 15% in 2025.

Innovation + Market Expansion Accelerate Mainstream Adoption
The expansion of calcium silicate materials is underpinned by technological innovation. In March of this year, Anhui Tianqi New Building Materials Co., Ltd. obtained a national patent for its "microporous lightweight calcium silicate insulation board production equipment and process." By optimizing raw material ratios and forming techniques, the company reduced product density by 18% while maintaining insulation performance, further enhancing competitiveness in lightweight applications.
Globally, the growth trajectory of calcium silicate insulation materials is also evident: the global market size exceeded RMB 8 billion in 2022, with international companies like Wellpool and KingTec Materials continuously investing in R&D. Industry forecasts indicate a compound annual growth rate of 9.2% from 2023 to 2028. Driven by strong demand for building energy efficiency retrofits and industrial green upgrades, China is expected to be the world's fastest-growing market.

From Construction to Industry: 3

From fireproofing in construction to thermal insulation in industry, calcium silicate materials are breaking down application barriers with their "core performance advantages" and gradually replacing traditional materials. With increasing policy support and ongoing technological advancements, they are poised to solidify their leading position in the insulation market, injecting new momentum of "safety + efficiency" into the industry.
