Product Description

Low Water Absorption Closed-Cell Foam Glass Pipe Insulation

This low water absorption closed-cell foam glass pipe insulation helps maintain insulation performance in moisture-exposed environments. Water absorption is typically at or below 0.5 % by volume, and the sealed cells mean the sections behave as a vapour-tight and water-tight material, so they neither soak up liquid water nor store water vapour inside the pipe insulation. The thermal value therefore stays where the design placed it, even on chilled water service, buried pipes and other humid or wet conditions.

The pipe sections are also rot-proof, non-combustible and dimensionally stable, and they resist corrosion under insulation because they do not hold moisture against the pipe. Where fibrous materials need a separate vapour barrier, closed-cell foam glass provides the barrier and the insulation in one robust, inorganic section.

Key Advantages

  • Water absorption at or below 0.5 % by volume
  • Closed-cell sections act as a water and vapour barrier
  • Keeps insulation performance on wet and buried piping
  • Resists corrosion under insulation by staying dry
  • Rot-proof, non-combustible and dimensionally stable
  • Long service life with minimal maintenance

Typical Applications

  • Chilled water and brine lines
  • Direct-buried and underground piping
  • Tunnels, shafts and service ducts
  • Wet rooms and humid process areas
  • Cold stores and refrigeration piping

Supply and Installation

The sections are supplied as pre-formed pieces in standard pipe sizes and can be cut, fitted and bonded on site with conventional tools. Every batch is produced from recycled glass under a controlled kiln process and inspected against the relevant standards before dispatch. The material is lightweight yet tough, easily handled by a single installer, and it is fully recyclable at the end of its long service life; it is produced without CFC or HCFC blowing agents. If you would like the full technical data sheet, the applicable test report or a project specific quotation, our team will gladly assist and advise on the most suitable size, thickness and grade for your piping system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much water do the sections absorb?

A: Water absorption is typically at or below 0.5 % by volume, which is close to zero and far lower than fibrous pipe insulation.

Q: Can it be used on buried pipes?

A: Yes. Because it does not absorb water and stays dimensionally stable, it is well suited to direct-burial and underground piping.

Q: Why does low absorption matter?

A: Because water destroys the insulating value of most materials; keeping the pipe insulation dry keeps the thermal performance and protects the pipe from corrosion under insulation.
