Product Description

Cryogenic Foam Glass Pipe Insulation for LNG Pipelines

This cryogenic foam glass pipe insulation is designed for qualified low-temperature systems, including LNG transfer and handling pipelines. The pre-formed cellular glass sections keep a closed-cell, impermeable barrier that performs at cryogenic service temperatures, and because the material is inorganic it does not become brittle or lose its insulating value when it is cooled to very low figures. It protects the cold pipe from ambient heat gain and from the moisture that would otherwise condense or freeze on the insulation.

Foam glass is trusted in cryogenic duty because its thermal conductivity stays low, its structure stays dimensionally stable, and its compressive strength allows it to carry insulation systems and vapour barriers without crushing. The sections are non-combustible and water repellent, so they also resist ice build-up and corrosion under insulation on LNG pipelines, cold boxes and cryogenic process lines.

  • Reduces heat gain and frost on cold pipes

Typical Applications

  • LNG transfer and process pipelines
  • Cryogenic process piping and headers
  • Liquefied gas terminals and plants
  • Cold storage and refrigeration piping
  • Low-temperature test and research lines

Supply and Installation

The sections are supplied as pre-formed pieces in standard pipe sizes and can be cut, fitted and bonded on site with conventional tools. Every batch is produced from recycled glass under a controlled kiln process and inspected against the relevant standards before dispatch. The material is lightweight yet tough, easily handled by a single installer, and it is fully recyclable at the end of its long service life; it is produced without CFC or HCFC blowing agents. If you would like the full technical data sheet, the applicable test report or a project specific quotation, our team will gladly assist and advise on the most suitable size, thickness and grade for your piping system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is foam glass suitable for LNG piping?

A: Yes. It is widely used for qualified cryogenic service such as LNG piping, because its inorganic cellular structure stays stable and impermeable at very low temperatures.

Q: Does it stop ice and frost build-up?

A: Yes. The impermeable closed-cell barrier limits moisture reaching the cold pipe, which greatly reduces condensation, frost and ice formation.

Q: Can it support a vapour barrier?

A: Yes. The sections carry high compressive strength, so they can support vapour barriers and protective jackets without crushing.
