Product Description

PUR Pipe Shell Insulation 50 mm Thick for Chilled Water Line Cooling Duty

A PUR pipe shell insulation is the preformed half round section that wraps a chilled water line and keeps condensation off the steel. Because the foam is closed cell, water vapour does not travel through it, so the outer surface stays above dew point and the pipe stays dry under the cladding.

Each PUR pipe shell insulation is moulded to the pipe diameter and cut in half, so it opens and closes around the line without site foaming. Density of around fifty kilograms per cubic metre gives the shell enough stiffness to hold its shape between supports, and the low conductivity of 0.023 W/(m.K) keeps the insulation thickness modest in tight plant rooms.

For cooling duty we supply shells with a factory applied vapour barrier option, and the longitudinal joint is sealed with contact adhesive on site. A PUR pipe shell insulation system installed this way passes a dew point check even in tropical plant rooms where the relative humidity stays above eighty five percent.

For plant rooms with limited headroom the PUR pipe shell insulation can be supplied at 40 mm wall thickness with foil facing, and the thinner PUR pipe shell insulation still meets the dew point requirement when line temperature stays above five degrees.

Key Advantages

  • Preformed half shells open around the pipe without site foaming
  • Closed cell foam blocks vapour and prevents condensation
  • Conductivity 0.023 W/(m.K) keeps insulation thickness low
  • Density near 50 kg/m3 holds shape between pipe supports
  • Service range from minus 80 to 100 C covers cooling and low temperature lines
  • Optional factory applied vapour barrier for humid plant rooms

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What pipe sizes can you supply?

A: Shells are moulded from 22 mm up to 610 mm outside diameter, and larger sizes are built from segmented sections.

Q: How is the joint sealed?

A: Longitudinal and butt joints are glued with contact adhesive, then taped or wrapped with a vapour barrier.

Q: Can the shell be used outdoors?

A: Yes, with an HDPE or metal cladding over the insulation to protect against UV and mechanical damage.

Q: Do you supply shells with aluminium foil facing?

A: Yes, foil or reinforced facing can be applied for vapour control and site cleanliness.
