Roof Thermal Insulation Phenolic Foam Board 60 mm for Metal Roof Deck Build Up
Roof thermal insulation works in the harshest position on a building: solar gain on top, occupied space below, and a deck that moves with every temperature change. Phenolic foam holds its shape across that range, with dimensional change within two percent after seven days at 130 degrees, so the board does not creep out of the purlin line.
At 0.032 W/(m.K) a 60 mm board gives a high resistance for a modest build up, which keeps the roof zone thin and the internal headroom intact. The closed cell core also means that if a leak does occur during construction, the foam does not soak up water and lose its value in the way mineral wool does.
Boards are foil faced and laid over the metal deck or between purlins, with joints staggered and taped. On warm roof assemblies the board sits above the deck and below the waterproofing, and roof thermal insulation of this type is specified where the U value target cannot be met with thicker mineral products.
Where a roof deck spans between purlins the board is laid with the long edge across the supports, and every roof thermal insulation panel joint is taped before the next layer goes down.
Key Advantages
- Stable to 130 C, so roof surface heat does not warp the board
- 0.032 W/(m.K) gives high resistance in a 60 mm build up
- Closed cell foam does not absorb water if a leak occurs
- Foil facing spreads foot traffic load during installation
- Staggered joints keep the insulation layer continuous
- Light board weight reduces load on roof purlins

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the board be walked on during installation?
A: Light traffic is possible with boards laid over the purlins, but a crawling board should be used until the waterproofing is complete.
Q: How is the board fixed to a metal deck?
A: With insulation fasteners through the deck, or bonded to the vapour barrier where the system specifies adhesion.
Q: Does it need a separate vapour barrier?
A: Warm roof systems normally include one, and the foil facing can act as part of the vapour control layer when joints are sealed.
Q: What thickness for a U value of 0.18?
A: Around 90 to 100 mm in most climates, and we calculate the exact figure from your design temperatures.
