Underfloor heating panels are thin by design, and a thin board has to do a thick board's job. The FL1200 board answers with 1200 kPa compressive strength at only 30 mm: the highest grade in the range, chosen because the screed, the floor finish and the furniture above it all load the same small thickness. The grooves are cut at the factory to the pipe layout, so the heating pipe sits at a fixed depth and the panel stays flat instead of being notched on site.
The grooved face is machined after extrusion, which keeps the cell structure intact below the groove base, and the rebated edge closes the joint between panels without a separate tape in dry systems. A 30 mm panel plus pipe and floor finish keeps the total build-up low, which is what makes the system work in renovation where floor height is fixed. The FL1200 pre-grooved XPS insulation board is supplied in standard sizes of L 1200 / 2400 mm, W 600 / 1200 mm, THK 30 - 140 mm, and the board can be cut on site with a fine toothed saw or a hot wire, which keeps the cut face closed.
Technical Data
Applications
Specified for dry panel underfloor heating where the pipe is held in the insulation rather than in a wet screed.
- Dry underfloor heating system base
- Renovation projects with a fixed floor height
- Panel systems with factory cut pipe channels
- Upper floors where added dead load must stay low
- Rooms finished with laminate, engineered timber or tile on panel
Key Advantages
- 1200 kPa compressive strength carries screed, floor finish and furniture on a 30 mm panel.
- Factory cut grooves hold the heating pipe at a constant depth across the floor.
- Conductivity of 0.026 to 0.035 W/(m.K) directs heat upward instead of into the structure.
- Rebated edges close panel joints without extra taping in dry systems.
- Service range of -50 to 75 C covers both heating flow temperatures and cold site conditions.
Where a project needs one grade across several details, the 1200 kPa Pre-Grooved XPS Underfloor Board can be cut from the same sheet for walls, floors and edges, which keeps the specified values consistent. The 1200 kPa Pre-Grooved XPS Underfloor Board is stocked in the standard sizes listed above, and cut sizes are produced to the layout drawings supplied with the order. On site the 1200 kPa Pre-Grooved XPS Underfloor Board is handled as a finished product: no coating, no wrapping and no curing is needed before the next layer goes on. A 1200 kPa Pre-Grooved XPS Underfloor Board sample and the batch test sheet are available on request, so the specified figures can be verified before the order is placed. The 1200 kPa Pre-Grooved XPS Underfloor Board is produced on the same continuous extrusion line as the rest of the FL1200 range, so the cell structure and the declared figures do not change from order to order.
Installation Notes
- Boards are laid with joints staggered and edges fully engaged over the whole face.
- Surfaces in contact with adhesive or membrane are cleaned and primed before the board is bedded.
- Boards are cut oversize by 10 mm where a tight fit into a frame or reveal is needed, then trimmed.
- Finished layers are protected from site traffic until the covering layer is in place.
