A freezer floor is the one place where insulation works at a temperature that would stop most materials behaving normally. The FL350 board is rated from -50 C, so it stays dimensionally stable and keeps its compressive strength at temperatures well below the service range of a normal building board. At 100 mm and 350 kPa it carries pallet trucks and racking legs while holding the floor at temperature, with the vapour barrier above it doing the rest.
Closed cells are what make the low temperature duty possible: there is no air path for moisture to migrate through the board, so the layer does not fill with ice over time. Dimensional stability of 0.3 to 1.0% at 70 C also means the panel stays flat when the floor is heated during a defrost cycle, which is when most cold store floors move. The FL350 XPS board is supplied in standard sizes of L 1200 / 2400 mm, W 600 / 1200 mm, THK 30 - 140 mm, and the board can be cut on site with a fine toothed saw or a hot wire, which keeps the cut face closed.
Technical Data
Applications
Specified for floors of chilled and frozen rooms, where the insulation is below the slab and the temperature stays well under zero.
- Cold storage and freezer room floor insulation
- Chilled and blast freezer room floors
- Floors under pallet truck and racking loads
- Defrost heated floor assemblies in freezers
- Insulation below the vapour barrier in cold rooms
Key Advantages
- Rated from -50 C, keeping strength and stability at freezer temperatures.
- 350 kPa compressive strength carries pallet trucks and racking legs.
- 100 mm thickness meets the U-value of a freezer floor in one layer.
- Closed cells prevent moisture migration and ice build-up in the layer.
- Stable through defrost heating cycles at the floor.
Each Low Temperature 350 kPa XPS Cold Storage Floor Board is checked for thickness, compressive strength and dimensional stability before it is packed, and the batch figures travel with the delivery note. Low Temperature 350 kPa XPS Cold Storage Floor Board sheets are packed on edge on pallets, strapped and wrapped, so the edges and the faces arrive as they left the line.
Installation Notes
- Boards are laid with joints staggered and edges fully engaged over the whole face.
- Surfaces in contact with adhesive or membrane are cleaned and primed before the board is bedded.
- Boards are cut oversize by 10 mm where a tight fit into a frame or reveal is needed, then trimmed.
- Finished layers are protected from site traffic until the covering layer is in place.
